セオリー／モデル、フィールド／メソッド、リサーチ／データ／プレゼンテーションの３つの系それぞれ専門とする３名の教員の複数担当形式で授業を行う。初回の授業ではガイダンスを実施し、本授業の位置づけと趣旨について説明したうえで、各担当者の授業概要ならびに事前に進めておくべき準備（文献等に関する学習）等について伝達する。各回の授業では、３つの系に関する基本的な知識と技法について講義する。３つの系、それぞれの講義目的は以下のとおり。
- ―セオリー／モデル系―［2〜5回］:
- 社会学における「理論」と「説明」のあり方がどのようなものであるべきかを古典的文献を通して学び、モデル構築の具体的方法を学ぶ。
- ―フィールド／メソッド系―［6〜9回］:
- 社会調査における質的研究、とくに民俗学的視点を活かしたフィールドワークの方法について、文献講読と実地巡検とを通して学ぶ。
- ―リサーチ／データ系―［10〜13回］:
- 社会学における量的調査、統計分析に関して具体的な研究例を通じて解説することで、リサーチリテラシー能力を高める。

1. To explore various areas of advanced sociological study, in particular areas of graduate study being pursued by enrolled students. Discussion and critical reflection on: significance of the study, ways and means of doing and reporting the study, implications for future research.
2. Help students gain greater confidence and competency in presenting and writing on their MA and Ph.D level.
